What Are You Waiting For?

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: “I’m going to get organized after [major life event] happens.”

I’ve heard this too many times for it to be a coincidence. Parents of teenagers tell me they’re waiting to get organized until the kids are out of the house. Young families in condos tell me they’re waiting to get organized until they buy their forever home. Newlyweds in little apartments tell me they’re waiting to get organized until they can buy that same condo! You can even keep going back to teenagers who say they’ll get organized when they move out of Mom and Dad’s house.

For some reason, people are endlessly postponing something that will improve their quality of life: getting organized. Do they feel like they don’t deserve it because they haven’t reached a particular milestone yet? Do they think it’s not worth putting in the time and effort in a space that isn’t their ideal? Either way, the cycle continues, and people pass days, months, and years in disorganized spaces that drive them nuts.

You don’t have to live like this! Life is happening right now, no matter your phase of life or the type of home you live in. Organizing isn’t just for people with big houses, or rich people, or successful people. It can help everyone, in every space, live a better life.

If you’ve been putting off getting organized until your next life milestone, I challenge you to make the best of the space you currently live in. Make it a place where you can enjoy life now. Because the future isn’t promised, but the present can be pretty sweet!

What are you waiting to get organized for, and why?
